Ep.14/ Use Human Design to Understand (and Heal) Fatigue
TL:DR - There are 4 motor centers in your Human Design chart. They all contribute to energy in a unique way.
Fatigue ranges from 'meh' to 'well, this kind of sucks' to 'omg I'm not a functioning member of society.'
Regardless of your levels of energy or fatigue, you can learn how to optimize your energy by understanding the motor centers in your Human Design chart. How they work, what they do, and the implications of having defined and undefined motor centers.
So what does Human Design have to say about energy?
First things first: pull up your chart.
These are the centers we’re talking about:
Root
Solar Plexus
Sacral
Heart/Will/Ego
When you’re looking at your chart, are these centers defined (colored in) or undefined (white).
In the chart to the right, all of the motor centers are defined.
Each of the motors contributes to energy in a slightly different way.
Side note: if all of your motor centers are undefined, that does NOT mean you’ll never have energy. (Obviously. You’re here reading this and living your life)
It DOES mean it’s extra important to be aware of how your energy system works, and how energy moves throughout your body. This workbook will be particularly helpful to build awareness and help you get in touch with how your system processes energy.
Let’s break it down a bit, shall we?
The Root Center
For the root center, ‘stress’ is nothing more or less than fuel that provides the energy needed to master any situation. If you do not understand how the root center works, you may live at one of two extremes: pushing too hard to move forward or turning that pressure inward, leading to depression.
The root center is also a pressure center in Human Design, meaning that it’s from the root that we feel the urge to get going, get moving, get things done!
With an undefined root center, be particularly aware of thoughts like:
‘I’m not doing enough’
‘I have to get this done ASAP’
These are signals you’re internalizing the external conditioning from the world.
The Solar Plexus Center
The Solar Plexus Center drives the cyclic nature of human life and experience. It is a center of passion, revolution, poetry, romance, compassion, spirituality and religion. Above all, the solar plexus is about emotions.
The desire and effort to avoid certain emotions causes emotional distortion all over the planet, for we are designed to experience the full range of enjoyable and not so enjoyable emotions. Emotions naturally shift and oscillate over time, and the solar plexus is the genesis of the ‘emotional waves.’ When emotional waves are in resonance, heightened spiritual awareness can occur, which points us all to our shared connection in the Oneness of the Universe.
If you have a defined solar plexus center, you also have an emotional authority. Be aware of making choices when you’re at an emotional high or low — it’s best you wait until you’re at emotional baseline to make a decision.
If you have an undefined solar plexus, be aware of your emotions as you’re with different folks. While the technical term for this is ‘non-emotional’ the fact is that you’ve an incredible ability to pick up and magnify allllll of the emotions going on around you. It’s key for you to learn to 1. let these things be without getting caught up in them, and 2. spend time in your own space so that you can be in touch with your emotions.
The Sacral Center
The Sacral Center is the prime motor/energy center and is responsible for feeling vital and energized. This is the center that gets us up and moving on a day to day basis.
If your sacral center is defined, you're a Generator or Manifesting Generator. If undefined, you're a Projector, Manifestor, or Reflector.
With a defined sacral, it’s key that you use your energy day by day. You’re not going to get a good rest unless you’ve burned through your energy supply for the day. Be sure you’re getting enough physical and mental activity.
With an undefined sacral, it’s key that you understand how your energy ebbs and flows. And trust your system. This can take some time and doing, but the more you tap into your own energetic waves, the better your outcomes on all fronts.
The Heart/Will/Ego Center
I’ve no idea why so many names, but here we are…
The heart drives the ego and willpower.
It governs the will to survive in community and to thrive on the material plane. It is the foundation of the communal nature of humans, and the extension of entrepreneurship. The safety and numbers of the community provides the opportunity for specialization.
With a defined heart center, you’ve got some power packed away. Trust your ability to take actions and make moves that are highly effective and consistent.
With an undefined heart center, be aware of internal conditioning of needing to be consistently motivated. Trust your process. If you need an extra kick, go spend time with someone who has this definition, or simply head to a public space so you can pick up on this energy.
The conditioning of the world says that we should go go go go go go go. To rest is lazy.
In order to ‘heal’ fatigue you need to understand that it serves a purpose of keeping you lined up with the highest outcomes for all living beings.
It’s also normal. Particularly if your system is overtaxed, if you’ve been trying to keep up with the world at all costs.
Anywhere your thoughts venture to the land of ‘I should…’ you’re in conditioning. Consider: where did you pick up that thought? Who says?
And then maybe find another, better thought… maybe something like
‘I bring my best when I’m rested’
‘I deserve to rest’
‘Rest isn’t lazy. It’s necessary and allows me to be my most effective’
